Hair Extension Aftercare
Wefts/K-Tips/Tape Ins/Mesh Integration/Combline
Day of Appointment
Do NOT wash hair for the first 24-48 hours to allow your newly applied extensions to adhere completely.
Brushing
Use a boar bristle brush on your bonds and any brush of your choice on your mid strand to ends for daily brushing. Avoid brushes with metal bead bristles.
Gather hair into sections and begin brushing from the ends, working your way up towards the scalp
Brush you hair before it gets wet to avoid hair from tangling while washing
If you are wearing a mesh integration piece, wash hair in a downwards motion as if you are brushing your hair roots to ends to avoid tangling. Product will go through your mesh piece and cleanse your hair piece and scalp.
Washing
Brush extensions before washing to remove any tangles
Use sulfate-free and paraben-free shampoo and conditioner (only apply conditioner mid strand to ends and avoid applying at extension bond to prevent slippage)
Wash in between rows with hands, Do not use circular motions or flip head upside down as this causes tangles
Depending on the amount of rows you have, you may need to section hair with a clip to properly wash in between rows
Drying
Towel dry hair and apply leave in conditioner or a heat protectant
Brush hair to avoid tangles and rough dry hair. Once hair is untangled, you can fully blow dry your hair if desired or you can also let air dry into its natural textured state
Hot Tools
Keep hot tools under 350. If you are wearing k tips, heat is okay on bonds but do not let your hot tool sit on the bonds for more then 10 seconds as this can melt your bonds and cause slippage and shedding of your extensions. If you are slow at styling your hair, put your temperature on hot tool below 320.
If you are a blonde, put your heat under 350 as the heat can cause brassiness
Products
Always use sulfate-free and paraben-free products on extensions (salon grade professional products are preferred especially if you are coloring your hair). Any other products used can cause a chemical reaction and can alter the color of your extensions
Avoid oiling scalp on areas that have extensions as this can cause slippage and shedding
Swimming
Before swimming, dampen hair (you can use a spray bottle or apply water on brush and brush through hair) and apply a small amount of leave-in conditioner to protect hair from chemicals
Tie hair in a ponytail or loose braid to avoid tangling in the water
Once done swimming, rinse the extensions and apply conditioner
Sleeping
Brush hair and tie in a ponytail or loose braid. Bonnets are okay but please still confine your hair in a pony or braid to avoid tangling while tossing and turning in your sleep
Do NOT go to bed with wet hair as it can cause tangling close to the scalp and can cause tension/irritation to your scalp
Coloring
Do NOT attempt to color hair extensions at home as this while compromise the quality of your hair extensions. This includes the use of purple or blue shampoos as these products can alter the color and quality of your extensions.
Hair extensions color can fade while you wear them due to hot tools, sun exposure and regular wear and tear. A color refresh is advised every other move up to maintain the shine and tone of your extensions.
Sunscreens
Avoid the use of chemical-based sunscreens, as this can cause discoloration of the hair. Please use mineral-based only products
